Tour of Springtime Rural Vistas a 200 mile ride over 2 days. We went from Quincy,FL to Albany, GA and back. It ended up 208 miles -8 bonus miles I guess. We did over 5400 feet on climbing over the 2 days. The rides went very well and we (Bernice, Derek & I ) felt great --- so I guess all the training is paying off.
I did have a little problem - at mile 22 my rear derailleur (shifter) cable broke and we were unable fix it. This meant I only had 3 functional gears instead of 30. It made it interesting but not unbearable.
There were 375 people in the event and we were able to meet some really nice folks.
This week we crested the $13,500 mark in our fund raising.

Hey Mike, Bernice & Derek;
It was fun sharing a table at dinner on the TOSRV ride last weekend and hearing about your quest. Sorry about the shifter cable - that's a repair that I wouldn't have anticipated. I'm amazed that you were able to attack those final hills without getting into your lowest gears - I wasn't! Most of us on those "low-life" recumbent bikes need all the help we can get on the hills. If you get a chance and you're interested, I posted a travel journal from a little trip I took last sumner with my alter ego - "the Raven", on Crazyguyonabike - its called "A Raven Flies to Key West". Good luck on the epic journey - and if you're in Iowa at the end of - stop in and say hello along the RAGBRAI route.

Hey Mike, Bernice & Derek; It was fun meeting you all at the TOSRV dinner on Saturday night. We did have a really nice weekend for a 200 mile ride - and I'm amazed that you did so well with only 3 working gears for the last 80+ miles of day 2. Thanks for the info about our total climbing elevation - I was wondering how much we climbed on day 2 - some of those grades were tough on some of us "low life" recumbent riders. If you're interested, I posted a little journal on "crazyguy..." http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/keywestaugust2006 for a trip I took to Key West with my alter ego "The Raven", last August. I'm planning on doing RAGBRAI for this summer's adventure - but your's sounds like more fun and ambitious. Good luck. Dale
